Fall 2018 Season Music in Midtown is a series of free lunchtime concerts spotlighting the highly regarded musical performance program at the CUNY Graduate Center. Presented in the warm, intimate, acoustically rich Elebash Recital Hall, these performances feature the music program’s renowned faculty, alumni, outstanding performers selected from students in the DMA program and noted guest artists. Some concerts are followed by a master class, which the public is invited to observe. Norman Carey is Director and Jacqueline Martelle is Assistant Director. •SEPTEMBER | 09.27.18 | 1:00 pm Chamber Music on Fifth II Music In Midtown presents a chamber music concert featuring a stellar group of musicians from the DMA performance program, including Nora Bartosik, piano; Magdalena Filipczak, violin; Pala Garcia, violin; Nikoloz Namoradze, piano; John Popham, violoncello; Alexei Tartakovski, piano; Xiaoming Tian, baritone; and Jin Suk Yu, violin. Works by Poulenc, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov and Schubert will be performed.
10.11.18 | 1:00 pm Poetry Project “Leela, Out of Darkness” Kristin Leitterman, Oboe and Soprano Graduate Center DMA alumna Kristin Leitterman and guest pianist Steven Mann present a program of three song-cycles of poetry by Rajiv Mohabir set by Whitney George, Brandon Scott Rumsey, and Michael-Thomas Foumai.
10.25.18 | 1:00 pm From Fanny Mendelssohn to Kaija Saariaho: Two Centuries of Women Composers
DMA piano graduate student Alexandra Joan and Graduate Center piano faculty Ursula Oppens perform works by Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, Laura Kaminsky and Kaija Saariaho.
11.08.18 | 1:00 pm The Cho-Rosen-McDonald Trio Catherine Cho, violin, Graduate Center faculty member Marcy Rosen, cello, and Robert McDonald, piano, present a program including Antonín Dvořák’s Trio in F Minor Op. 65, Maurice Ravel’s Duo for Violin and Cello, and a Beethoven violin sonata, TBA.
12.06.18 | 1:00 pm Chamber Music on Fifth III
Music In Midtown ends the fall semester with a program of chamber works, TBA, performed by our stellar artists in the DMA program in music performance here at the Graduate Center.
